PACIFIC NORTHWEST WINE OF THE WEEK
Lachini Vineyards
2002 Pinot Noir
Appellation: Willamette Valley
Price: $35. Look for this in wine shops or restaurants.
In just its second release, this tiny Yamhill County winery has found its stride. The wine is made by Isabelle Dutartre, a Burgundian-trained winemaker who commutes from her home in France. This classic wine provides aromas of subtle cherries, black pepper and French oak spices and flavors of dark, jammy cherries and red licorice. Sweet, supple tannins meld with right-on acidity for a long, smooth, balanced finish. Rated "Outstanding" by Wine Press Northwest.
This intense Pinot Noir should pair well with a variety of meat dishes, including pork or Cornish game hens.
